DAY 2 - Auckland, the City of Sails

After breakfast at the hotel, we'll head out this morning to experience a highlights tour of Auckland, the ‘City of Sails’, including the panoramic city and harbour views from Bastion Point, trendy Parnell Village, the lovely bays of the waterfront drive and the vibrant Viaduct Harbour area.

We'll visit Eden Garden. This New Zealand Garden Trust 5-star rated garden has become a must-see destination due to the beautiful plant collections that always provide something in bloom. Built in an old quarry in the centre of Auckland, Eden Garden sits on the side of Mount Eden, one of the many volcanic remnants within Auckland. Fifty-three years of garden passion has turned an abandoned wilderness into a memorial garden of great beauty and interest.

Afterwards, we'll head to the All Blacks Experience. An immersive and interactive journey through the New Zealand rugby story! Your time here will help you to understand what it takes to make, shape and be an All Black and even test your rugby skills against All Blacks and Black Ferns in the hands on, interactive zone.

The afternoon is free for you to relax before dinner at Orbit, Auckland’s renowned rotating restaurant located atop the Sky Tower. You’ll enjoy Kiwi-inspired cuisine with stunning 360° views over the city and Hauraki Gulf.

Included meals: Breakfast & Welcome Dinner

DAY 3 - Hobbiton, home of Middle Earth

Today we will check out and depart Auckland as we start our travel south through picturesque farmland towards Matamata, home to Hobbiton.

Experience the real "Middle-Earth" with a visit to the Hobbiton Movie Set, the bucolic setting for The Shire that featured in the Peter Jackson's movie trilogy The Lord of the Rings – and more recently, The Hobbit spin offs.

Drive through the picturesque 1,250-acre sheep farm with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges as your guide recounts fascinating details of how the Hobbiton set was created. Afterwards, we'll enjoy a delicious lunch inside the festive Party Marquee.

Later, we continue southwest and climb into the bush-clad Mamaku Ranges and through the lush Fitzgerald Glade before reaching the unique geothermal area of Rotorua.

With a unique thermal and volcanic landscape, living Maori culture, natural hot springs and bubbling mud pools, Rotorua is one of New Zealand’s best known and most popular destinations. Rotorua forms part of the geologically active ‘Pacific Rim of Fire’ and evidence of the bubbling thermal activity just under the earth’s crust is surprisingly evident throughout the city.

We check in and enjoy an evening at leisure.

Included meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Accommodation: Novotel Rotorua Lakeside
Optional extras: Wai Ariki Hot Springs & Spa - Just a 7-minute walk from the hotel, enjoy a 90-minute Maori-inspired restorative spa journey on the shores of Lake Rotorua — a relaxing blend of hot and cold therapies to soothe mind and body. Bring your swimsuit; robe, towel and amenities provided.

DAY 4 - Highlights of Rotorua

This morning, we dive into the heart of New Zealand wildlife with a visit to the National Kiwi Hatchery Aotearoa. Here, you’ll discover how dedicated conservationists are helping protect New Zealand’s most treasured icon — the kiwi. During our guided tour, we’ll learn how over 2,100 chicks have been hatched here, helping bring this precious bird back from the brink. By visiting, you’re directly supporting kiwi conservation — ka pai!

Next, we step into another world among towering giants on the Redwoods Treewalk. Suspended up to 20 metres above the forest floor, we wander across 28 suspension bridges tucked among 120-year-old Californian redwoods. This peaceful canopy stroll offers a unique vantage point and a magical sense of freedom — perfect for all who are able to walk unaided.

This afternoon, the adventure continues as we travel to Te Puia, home of the powerful Pohutu Geyser, bubbling mud pools, and the national school of Maori arts and crafts. We’ll explore the geothermal valley with a local guide before settling in for Te Po, an unforgettable evening of Maori storytelling, haka, song, and a delicious buffet dinner including traditional hangi cuisine. After dinner, we enjoy a finale in the valley, warmed by hot chocolate beneath the glow of coloured light — a spectacular way to end the night.

After this immersive cultural experience, we return to our hotel to rest ahead of tomorrow’s travels.

Included meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Accommodation: Novotel Rotorua Lakeside

DAY 5 - North Island's Nature & Napier

Today, we bid farewell Rotorua and journey across scenic New Zealand landscapes toward the charming seaside city of Napier.

Our first stop is the dramatic Huka Falls, where the mighty Waikato River squeezes through a narrow gorge before plummeting in a spectacular icy-blue torrent — a powerful sight you won’t forget!

We then continue across the sweeping plains and pine forests of the central North Island, travelling through ever-changing countryside as we make our way into Hawke’s Bay, one of New Zealand’s most celebrated wine regions.

Just outside Napier, we pause at Crab Farm Winery, a rustic, family-owned estate whose lands were lifted more than two metres during the 1931 earthquake. Enjoy a delicious lunch surrounded by local history before we head onward to the coastline.

This afternoon, we set off on an exciting Gannet Safari Overland to the sprawling gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers — the largest and most accessible mainland nesting site of these striking birds. Travelling by 4WD along dramatic coastal cliffs, we arrive to see up to 20,000 gannets nesting, swooping overhead, and performing their graceful greeting rituals. It’s a remarkable New Zealand wildlife experience.

We return to Napier and check in at our hotel, with the rest of your evening free to relax or stroll the waterfront.

Napier itself is a delight — a city rebuilt in stunning Art Deco style following the 1931 earthquake. Its pastel-coloured buildings, palm-lined streets, and seaside views give it a unique, elegant charm.

Enjoy dinner at leisure this evening.

Included meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Scenic Hotel Te Pania, Napier

DAY 6 - Wine Country to Wellington

After breakfast, we say goodbye to Napier and begin our journey south through rich Hawke’s Bay farming country, passing orchards, vineyards, and rolling hills as we make our way toward New Zealand’s capital.

Along the way, we stop at Le Gra Winery, a small family-run estate just outside Masterton. Here, we enjoy a relaxed tasting and delicious homemade platter lunch. As we sip, we’ll hear the family’s story — how their passion became a business “made with love,” reflected in every bottle they create.

Continuing south, we travel through the picturesque Wairarapa region before rolling into Wellington, a compact harbour city known for its arts, culinary scene, and creative spirit.

On arrival, the remainder of the afternoon and evening is yours to explore at leisure. You may like to wander the lively waterfront, browse boutique shops, or settle into one of Wellington’s famous cafés — the city is known as the coffee capital of New Zealand, after all!

Tonight is free for you to dine as you wish. From buzzing eateries to cosy bistros, you’ll find no shortage of great places to try.

Included meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Accommodation: James Cook Grand Chancellor Hotel, Wellington

DAY 7 - Across the Strait to Wild Kaikoura

This morning, we farewell the North Island and board the ferry across the Cook Strait — one of the most beautiful short sea crossings in the world. As we sail through the serene waters of the Queen Charlotte Sound, keep your camera ready — the forest-clad hills, secluded coves and sparkling inlets create a truly unforgettable panorama.

Arriving in Picton, we meet our South Island driver and continue our journey down the dramatic coastline. Our route traces a narrow stretch of land between the rugged mountain ranges and the deep blue of the Pacific Ocean — one of the most scenic drives in New Zealand.

We soon arrive in the coastal haven of Kaikoura, a place where snow-tipped peaks meet the sea and marine wildlife thrives. Kaikoura is world-renowned for its sperm whales, which can be seen year-round, as well as fur seals and playful dolphins.

The town’s name translates to “to eat crayfish,” and you’ll quickly see why — seafood lovers are in for a treat!

After checking into our hotel, take time to wander the waterfront, enjoy the coastal air, or simply relax and soak in the views.

This evening, we gather for dinner at the hotel — a lovely opportunity to unwind and enjoy each other’s company surrounded by Kaikoura’s stunning seascape.

Included meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Accommodation: Sudima Hotel, Kaikoura

DAY 8 - Ocean Encounters in Kaikoura

Get ready for an unforgettable morning in one of the world’s premier marine wildlife destinations! Today, we join a Dolphin Encounter — an incredible opportunity to swim alongside, or simply observe, Kaikoura’s playful and acrobatic dusky dolphins in their natural habitat.

For those who choose to swim, full wetsuits and snorkelling equipment are provided, and after your time in the water, you’ll warm up with hot chocolate and biscuits. Confident swimming ability in open water is essential, and while prior snorkelling experience isn’t required, it does help — but don’t worry, the crew are fantastic at guiding you through. Observers can enjoy watching the dolphins from the comfort of the boat — equally magical!

(Please note: groups may be split into two smaller boats depending on numbers.)

After this incredible encounter, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. You might like to wander the coastal paths, browse the small township, or simply relax by the shore.

Kaikoura offers wonderful optional experiences — perhaps visit the local museum, explore the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway, or take to the water again for a seal-kayaking tour.

Alternatively, you may like to visit Lavendyl Kaikoura Lavender Farm, a lovely property set among fields of lavender, ornamental gardens and farm animals. Enjoy a stroll, browse the gift shop, or treat yourself to tea among the fragrant blooms.

This evening is free to enjoy Kaikoura at your own pace — perhaps try some of the region’s famous crayfish!

Included meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Sudima Hotel, Kaikoura

DAY 9 - Stories of Otautahi Christchurch

This morning, we journey south from Kaikoura, travelling across the wide, fertile plains of North Canterbury toward Otautahi Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island. As the mountains recede, the scenery shifts to patchworked farmland and rural townships — a peaceful and gentle drive.

On arrival in Christchurch, we enjoy time at leisure for lunch. Take a stroll through the compact city centre, explore the riverside eateries, or find a cosy café in this famously creative town — the choice is yours.

This afternoon, we step into the living story of Otautahi with a 75-minute guided walking tour focused on Maori history, culture and identity woven into the city’s modern urban landscape, particularly following the 2010–11 earthquakes.

We begin with a warm mihi whakatau (welcome) and karakia (prayer), before hearing the ancient creation stories of Ranginui (Sky Father) and Papatuanuku (Earth Mother), and the tale of Hineahuone. As we walk beside the river, our guide shares stories of early Maori settlement, food-gathering sites, pa (village) locations and the role of kaitiakitanga — guardianship — in shaping the city’s future.
It’s a memorable way to understand Christchurch through a Maori lens and deepen your connection to the land and people.

After checking into our hotel, the remainder of the afternoon is yours to relax, wander the riverside pathways, or explore the stylish new city precincts.

This evening, we enjoy a truly special experience — We'll dine tonight abord the Tramway Restaurant as we sit back and enjoy a delicious dinner in the luxury of an air-conditioned colonial style tramcar while taking in some of Christchurch’s most interesting sights.

Included meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Accommodation: Distinction Hotel, Christchurch

DAY 10 - Peninsula Wonders: Akaroa & Hidden Gardens

Today, we’re joined by a local guide as we leave Christchurch and travel over the port hills toward the peaceful bays of Banks Peninsula — a region shaped by ancient volcanic activity. Our journey winds through rolling valleys and coastal villages before reaching the tranquil settlement of Governors Bay.

Here, we visit Ohinetahi, one of New Zealand’s most extraordinary private gardens. Originally established in the 1860s and lovingly restored over many decades, Ohinetahi is renowned for its perfectly composed garden rooms, sculptures, art installations, and sweeping harbour views. With its blend of history, architecture and landscape, the garden tells stories of both people and place — a true hidden gem.

We then continue toward the charming township of Akaroa, the only French settlement in New Zealand. In the mid-1800s, early French settlers carved out a life among the Maori communities already living here, leaving behind an enduring French flavour — from street names to patisserie displays.

On arrival, we enjoy a relaxed lunch and free time to explore boutique shops, waterfront cafés and galleries. Strolling along the harbour, you’ll notice the village’s distinctive French charm, all against a backdrop of sparkling blue water and volcanic peaks.

This afternoon, we visit The Giants House — a magical, award-winning garden bursting with wonder. Here, colour and creativity collide in whimsical sculptures, mosaicked stairways, terraced gardens and bold art installations. With surprises tucked around every corner, it’s a joyful place to explore.

After a memorable day of art, gardens and coastal scenery, we return to Christchurch. The evening is yours to dine as you wish — perhaps riverside, or somewhere tucked into the lively city centre.

Included meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Accommodation: Distinction Hotel, Christchurch

DAY 11 - Alpine Peaks & Lakeside Hospitality

This morning, we depart Christchurch and journey across the wide Canterbury Plains, travelling into the heart of the Mackenzie Country. As we climb over Burkes Pass, the scenery transforms dramatically — fertile farmland gives way to golden tussock plains framed by the soaring Southern Alps.

Our first stop is the turquoise shores of Lake Tekapo, where we visit the charming Church of the Good Shepherd. Its stone chapel and stunning alpine backdrop make it one of New Zealand’s most photographed landmarks — and once you’re here, you’ll see why!

Next, we’re welcomed into the private home of Lake Tekapo locals, Angie and Stan Taylor, for a wonderfully warm and very Kiwi experience. Set right on the lakeshore, their home offers gorgeous views — the perfect setting for a special Pavlova Experience.
Angie will share her tips and family secrets behind this iconic New Zealand dessert before we enjoy a delicious lakeside lunch — including pavlova, of course!

Recharged, we continue across the Mackenzie Basin, detouring alongside shimmering Lake Pukaki toward Aoraki / Mt Cook National Park. With New Zealand’s highest peak towering above us, you’ll have free time to explore — perhaps visit the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre or simply admire the vast alpine scenery. Those craving extra adventure may opt for a breathtaking scenic helicopter flight, where you’ll soar over glaciers and land in the snow (optional, additional cost).

Later, we travel to Twizel, a peaceful town surrounded by mountain ranges and big skies. After checking in, we regroup for dinner at our hotel — a relaxed end to a day filled with natural beauty, warm Kiwi hospitality and unforgettable alpine landscapes.

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Distinction Mackenzie Country Hotel, Twizel
Optional extras: Mountains High Scenic Flight - Take your adventure to new heights with a 40-minute scenic helicopter flight over the Mackenzie Basin, soaring past Aoraki/Mt Cook and the dramatic Hochstetter Icefall. Enjoy spectacular views of the Upper Tasman Glacier before landing on remote alpine snow — an unforgettable moment surrounded by pure Southern Alps beauty. (additional cost — ask us for details.)

DAY 12 - High Country to Lakeside Te Anau

This morning, we farewell Twizel and continue south through the iconic Mackenzie Country. At the southern end of this remarkable region, the road climbs through rugged, tussock-covered hills before crossing the dramatic Lindis Pass — one of New Zealand’s most scenic alpine highways. Keep your cameras ready; the landscapes here are vast, isolating, and breathtakingly beautiful.

Descending into Central Otago, we follow the mighty Clutha River past orchard country and rolling hills before pausing at Lake Dunstan. Here, we stop at the celebrated Stoaker Room in Cromwell for a unique and flavour-packed lunch. Their signature “Stoaker Barrel Cuisine” features regional produce steamed, baked and grilled in repurposed wine barrels — paired with five Wild Earth Wines. A creative and delicious tasting experience!

This afternoon, we journey along the shores of spectacular Lake Wakatipu, where the road reveals sweeping views of the vast blue lake framed by saw-toothed mountain ranges. It’s one of the great South Island drives — enjoy every bend and vista.

Leaving the lake behind, we continue through a fertile glacial valley dotted with peaceful farming communities before arriving in Te Anau, the gateway to Fiordland and the spectacular southwest wilderness.

After checking in, the remainder of the day and evening are free for you to enjoy at leisure. Te Anau is a charming lakeside town — the perfect place for a relaxed stroll, a quiet drink, or dinner by the water.

Included meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Distinction Hotel & Villas, Te Anau
Optional extras: Te Anau Glowworm Caves - This evening, journey across Lake Te Anau by boat to explore a hidden underground world of sculpted rock formations, rushing streams and twinkling glowworms. Glide in near-silence beneath thousands of glowing lights — a magical, otherworldly experience. (additional cost — ask us for details.)

DAY 13 - Fantastic Fjordland National Park

After breakfast, we'll drive the short distance to Pearl Harbour at Lake Manapouri to board a cruise across the crystal waters of Lake Manapouri to West Arm before re-boarding our coach and crossing the alpine route of Wilmot Pass through some of Fiordland’s most dense rainforest. Here catch your first glimpse of Doubtful Sound before descending to Deep Cove.

The cruise on Doubtful Sound will explore the waterways of this serene and isolated fiord. Enjoy the spectacular alpine scenery including waterfalls, rainforest and mountains all the way out to the Tasman Sea. We may be lucky to see bottlenose dolphins and fur seals and, when in season, the rare Fiordland crested penguin. During the cruise knowledgeable and friendly nature guides will share with you their passion for the region as they point out landmarks and share information about the varied wildlife you may see as we enjoy a picnic lunch served onboard.

At the end of the cruise, we'll retrace our journey back across Wilmot Pass and Lake Manapouri to Pearl Harbour where we re-join the coach to travel to Queenstown. Surrounded by majestic mountains and nestled on the shores of crystal-clear Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown offers diverse, world-class experiences, a warm welcome and a cosmopolitan vibe.

Check in and enjoy dinner in hotel restaurant.

Don't forget your camera, with charger/spare batteries and memory cards.
