DAY 1 - Welcome to Reykjavik!

Upon arrival in Iceland, you will be greeted by your driver and transferred to our hotel in Reykjavík.

After check-in, you have the rest of the day to explore the city at leisure.

Whether strolling along the charming streets, discovering cozy cafés, or taking in the stunning waterfront views, Reykjavík offers a wonderful introduction to Iceland.

DAY 2 - Discovering Reykjavík

Today is National Independence Day! We have the morning to enjoy the celebrations downtown.

After lunchtime, we embark on a guided sightseeing tour of Reykjavík.

We will visit Harpa Concert Hall and Opera House, as well as Hallgrímskirkja Church, a stunning landmark named after poet Hallgrímur Pétursson. This Lutheran church, standing at 74.5 meters tall, is the largest in Iceland and has become a national symbol since its completion in 1986.

The tour continues with a visit to Bessastaðir, the residence of the President of Iceland, followed by a stop at the famous Sun Voyager sculpture by the ocean. Driving through downtown Reykjavík, you will see the Althing Parliament, the Office of the Prime Minister, and the historic Höfði House, where Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev met to end the Cold War. 

In the afternoon we will also experience FlyOver Iceland, where you will be suspended in front of a massive spherical screen for a thrilling simulated flight across Iceland, enhanced with wind, mist, and scent effects.

This evening, we will gather and enjoy a welcome dinner together.

DAY 3 - Icelandic Traditions and Relaxation

Today we have start with a visit the Hera workshop Flóð & Fjara, where you will learn about Icelandic knitting traditions and the famous Icelandic lopi sweater. We will then travel off the beaten path to the beautiful Hvalfjörður region in West Iceland, where you will explore the landscape, history, and local way of life.

A visit to a local farm will give us the opportunity to see the Icelandic sheep that have provided warmth to the people of Iceland for centuries. We will have enjoy lunch here before ending the day with a relaxing visit to Hvammsvík Baths, where we will enjoy unspoiled nature (a towel and wading shoes for the ocean will be provided).

DAY 4 - Journey to Snæfellsnes Peninsula

After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and set off for the breathtaking Snæfellsnes Peninsula, famously known as “Iceland in Miniature.”

We will visit the picturesque Kirkjufell Mountain and its nearby waterfall, Djúpalónssandur Black Beach, where smooth black pebbles cover the shore alongside shipwreck remnants from 1948. You will marvel at the Lóndrangar Cliffs, which rise 61 and 75 meters above the coastline, and explore the ancient fishing village of Arnarstapi, where we will stop for a chance to grab some lunch. 

Later, we visit Vatnshellir Lava Cave, a lava tube formed 8,000 years ago from the Snæfellsjökull volcano before heading back to the hotel for an evening at lesuire before we meet again for dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 5 - The Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon

After breakfast, we set out to explore the world-famous Golden Circle.

We will first visit Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. This site also holds historical significance as the location where Iceland’s first parliament was established in 930 AD. We have the chance to explore the Geysir Geothermal Area, home to the famous Strokkur geyser, which erupts every 5 to 10 minutes, shooting water up to 30 meters into the air.

Next, we travel to visit Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most powerful and breathtaking waterfalls, where the Hvítá River cascades 32 meters into a rugged canyon. A unique lunch experience awaits us at Friðheimar Greenhouse. 

Our day concludes with a visit to the Secret Lagoon, a natural geothermal bath where you can relax in raw nature.

DAY 6 - Vatnajökull National Park & Glacier Lagoons

Today, we venture into Vatnajökull National Park, home to the stunning Skaftafell and the famous Jökulsárlón and Fjallsárlón glacier lagoons.At Jökulsárlón, a 200-meter-deep glacial lake, we will witness massive icebergs floating towards the Atlantic Ocean.

Nearby, we will visit the breathtaking Diamond Beach, where ice fragments wash up on the black sand shore, sparkling like diamonds. 

We end the day with a breathtaking boat tour on Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon, bringing us up close to the awe-inspiring icebergs for an unforgettable experience.

DAY 7 - South Coast Wonders

As we journey back to Reykjavík, we explore Iceland’s South Coast, starting with the famous Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, ranked as one of the world’s most beautiful non-tropical beaches. This dramatic coastline features towering basalt columns and massive waves.

We will continue to Skógafoss, a 60-meter waterfall surrounded by a misty gorge, where you can climb 527 steps to admire the view from above. A visit to a secret waterfall and the stunning Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk behind the cascading water, will follow. If weather permits, we will catch a glimpse of the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, known for its 2010 eruption.

We will return to Reykjavík where you can enjoy the evening at your lesuire.

DAY 8 - Reykjanes Peninsula & Blue Lagoon

On our final full day, we explore the Reykjanes Peninsula Geopark. We will cross the Bridge Between Continents, which spans a tectonic fissure dividing the Eurasian and North American plates.

Passing Reykjanesviti, Iceland’s oldest lighthouse, you will continue to the coast, where black rock formations and high cliffs offer breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. We will also see the site of the 2023 volcanic eruption.

The highlight of the day is a visit to the world-famous Blue Lagoon, where you can enjoy its mineral-rich geothermal waters. We will provide towels, bathrobes, silica mud mask, an algae mask, and a complimentary drink.

After a relaxing day, we will gather together one last time this evening to enjoy our farewell dinner, sharing stories of our wonderful time in Iceland.

DAY 9 - Goodbye Iceland

All good things must come to an end and unfortunately it's time to say 'Kveðjum' , Farewell in Icelandic. You will be transferred back to the airport for your onward flight home.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made within 90 days of departure are subject to a 100% cancellation fee. Deposits are non-refundable, and balance payments are due 14 weeks prior to departure. It is your responsibility to ensure adequate travel insurance is in place to protect against the need to cancel your holiday.
Minimum Numbers: The Big Journey Company host will accompany the tour should minimum guest numbers be met. We will confirm this closer to the departure date.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

PASSPORTS

Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the period of stay. It is advised to have 1 blank page in your passport. Please be sure to fill out the "Emergency Next of Kin" section in your passport

VISAS
• UK, US, Canadian, and most EU citizens do not need a visa for short visits (up to 90 days within a 180-day period) to Iceland, which is part of the Schengen Area.
• If you plan to stay longer or for non-tourism purposes, check with the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration: https://utl.is 

Note: Visa and entry requirements, regulations, and restrictions can change. Ensure you check the current requirements well in advance of travel.

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the necessary travel documentation prior to departure.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

All passengers must have valid travel insurance before traveling, including health and cancellation insurance. Please ensure you have a copy of your insurer’s 24-hour emergency telephone number and your policy number.

Please advise us before travel if you have any medical conditions requiring special attention during your trip. If you have a specific medical condition, it is wise to carry the relevant doctor’s prescription with you.

What to Pack and Wear:

The weather in Iceland can be unpredictable—be prepared for sunshine, rain, and wind all in one day. We recommend:
• Warm, waterproof layers
• Sturdy walking shoes or boots
• A hat and gloves, even in summer
• Smart casual attire for evening meals if desired
• Don’t forget your camera, charger, spare batteries, and memory cards

Luggage Allowances:

Airlines have strict policies on luggage size and weight. Please check your airline’s website before departure. Domestic and European flights often allow less than long-haul routes.

LANGUAGE

The official language is Icelandic, but English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas.

WEATHER

Iceland’s weather is highly changeable. Average summer temperatures (June–August) are 10–15°C (50–59°F), though they can reach up to 20°C (68°F). Wind and rain are common. Layered clothing and waterproof outerwear are essential. Always check the local weather before your trip: https://en.vedur.is

ELECTRICITY

Iceland operates on a 230V / 50Hz electrical supply. Plug types C and F are used (two round pins). A plug adapter may be required depending on your home country’s configuration.?

COMMUNICATION

Mobile coverage is excellent across Iceland, including rural areas. Roaming fees can be high, so check with your provider or consider a local SIM card or international data plan.?

MONEY

Currency:

Iceland’s currency is the Icelandic Króna (ISK). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, even for small purchases. ATMs are readily available in towns and cities.

It is recommended to inform your bank before you travel and carry international contact numbers for your card provider in case of issues.

Gratuities:

WATER

Iceland’s tap water is among the cleanest in the world and is safe to drink. Bottled water is widely available, but not necessary in most locations.

SAFETY & SECURITY

Iceland is one of the safest countries in the world. Crime is low, but tourists should still take normal precautions such as securing valuables and being aware of surroundings, especially in busy areas.

RELIGION

Iceland is a predominantly Lutheran Christian country. Religion plays a modest role in daily life, and religious tolerance is high.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Iceland offers world-class photo opportunities: waterfalls, glaciers, geysers, and the Northern Lights.
• Pack your camera, charger, spare batteries, and memory card
• Drones are restricted in some areas—check local signage or regulations
• Always respect nature and wildlife, and follow safety signs near cliffs or geothermal areas

ARRIVAL IN ICELAND

Please note, standard hotel check-in is around 3pm. If arriving earlier than this, your room may not be available upon arrival. For those arriving early morning, we do everything we can to work with the hotel to get you an earlier check-in subject to availability.
